Brian & Charles (2022)

Brian is a lonely inventor who singularly fails in his attempts to create bizarre contraptions. One day, he decides to build an A.I. robot using a washing machine and a mannequin’s head. Lo and behold, Charles the robot, who has a voracious appetite for knowledge and cabbages. This is a wonderful and slightly bonkers British bromance comedy which will bring a smile to everyone’s face.

Irreplaceable (2016)

A devoted rural GP (Francois Chizet) is set in his ways and routine. he is loath to accept help even when he gets bad news and really needs to rest. Help arrives in the person of Dr Delezia (Marianne Denicourt), he greets her with resistance and grumpiness to cover how unsettled he is about this newcomer and his own situation.
This is a delightful film mixing the serious with humour, charm and humanity. The sense of community and caring for each other is beautifully portrayed, just what the French do well.

The Quiet Girl (2022)

Cait, a quiet and withdrawn nine-year-old girl, who is neglected by her dysfunctional family, is sent to live with some distant relatives for the summer. However, living on a farm with loving foster parents opens her eyes up to a new way of growing up and Cait learns the true meaning of family. A beautifully understated coming of age drama. Aftersun (2022)

Ove (pronounced Oo-vah), who has given up on life, is a cantankerous, retired, lonely widowed man spending his time unofficially guarding the gated community where he lives. But he reluctantly develops a friendship with a young family new to the area which gives him a new lease of life. A beautiful, quirky comedy/drama about love and friendship across the generations.

I Got Life (2017)

A lovely, funny and charming French comedy that has a lot of appeal. Aurore, Agnes Jaoui, is going through many changes in her life some happier than others, but all confusing. Aurore then, by chance, bumps into an old boyfriend, more confusion or a chance to embrace her desire for life and love?
